‘Fleabag’ Season 2
In my humble opinion, there’s never a bad time to rewatch the masterful second season of Fleabag, but with a new Andrew Scott movie (All of Us Strangers) out in theaters now, there’s no better time to look back on this perfect season of television that features one of Scott’s best performances. He stars opposite Phoebe Waller-Bridge‘s Fleabag as a character known simply as “the Priest,” though you may also know him as Hot Priest. Fleabag meets the Priest (who is set to perform her father and godmother’s wedding ceremony) at a chaotic family dinner in the first episode, and they connect in a deep way. The weight of it all sneaks up on you, because the premise — a woman falling in love with a Catholic priest — could go in so many different directions. The direction Waller-Bridge ultimately chose as the series’ screenwriter is funny (because Fleabag is, technically, a comedy), but it’s also quietly devastating. Waller-Bridge embodies Fleabag’s quirks so well, but Scott runs away with the season as a man wrestling with his faith. If you’re looking for something to stream during this weird in-between week, Fleabag Season 2 is just six short episodes, so you can watch the entire story play out in the time it’d take to watch one longer movie.
