‘From Scratch’
If you’re craving a passionate romance, a colossal cry sesh, and a delicious visual buffet of Italian food, smash play on Netflix’s From Scratch. The eight-episode limited series, produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and adapted from Tembi Locke’s 2019 memoir of the same name, follows Amy (Zoe Saldana), an American studying abroad in Italy. After an electric meet-cute, Amy falls in love with sexy Sicilian chef Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), and the two move to the United States to build a life together. Combining cultures and making major sacrifices proves more difficult than they imagined, and parental disapproval, career setbacks, and heartbreaking health issues turn this rom-com into a tearjerker. Saldana and Mastrandrea share superb on-screen chemistry, and the show’s many supporting characters will start to feel like your own family members. In good times and bad, From Scratch is a touching story of love, loss, food, and family. Just be sure you have tissues nearby for the ride. (Trust us.)
