‘Hellboy’
Before Doctor Strange, Aquaman, and Thor: Ragnarok blew our minds with the possibilities of weird superhero adaptations, there was one demonic antihero from below that shook up the genre. Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy was one of the first pseudo-serious superhero features that was allowed to be unapologetically weird. Between this action fantasy’s shockingly fantastic prosthetic effects and Ron Perlman’s grumbling, smug performance, it’s a part of cinematic history that deserves to be revisited.
