‘High Flying Bird’
High Flying Bird, Steven Soderbergh’s second film shot entirely on iPhones, imagines a world in which black athletes have power over their predominantly white owners. The film follows agent Ray Burke (André Holland) as he attempts to end an NBA lockout and secure a payday for his rookie client, Erick Scott (American Vandal‘s Melvin Gregg). With the help of his former assistant Sam (Zazie Beetz), Ray maneuvers his way through greedy team owners, Players’ Association reps, and his own agency’s bureaucracy to create an environment where athletes get to control the game, even just for a second. If you’re a fan of Soderbergh’s other heists, High Flying Bird is worth the watch, but if you’re a sports fan? It’s downright must-see.
