‘Hunt For The Wilderpeople’
Still giddy from Thor: Ragnarok? The brand new Marvel film got most of its phosphorescence from its witty up-and-coming director Taika Waititi. The Kiwi comedian and auteur has a number of great cult films for you to check out, but we’d put priority on screening his wry coming-of-age story Hunt For The Wilderpeople. Julian Dennison stars as Ricky Baker, a troubled youth sent to live with foster parents in the New Zealand wilderness. A sad twist of fate puts him and his curmudgeon-y foster father (played by Sam Neill) on the run as unlikely fugitives. The film is fun, funny, and has the same bawdy wit and dark underbelly of such ’80s classics as The Goonies.
