‘Hustle’
There’s a persuasive argument to be made that Adam Sandler is the new king of sports films. From Happy Gilmore and The Waterboy to The Longest Yard and Uncut Gems (a quasi sports movie), the Sandman is adept at crafting always engaging often hilarious underdog tales. Hustle might just be his best yet. Now streaming on Netflix, the movie follows the story of Stanley Sugerman, an NBA scout who discovers an immensely talented street ball player (Bo Cruz, played by Juancho Hernangomez) while in Spain. After being fired from the 76ers, Sugerman trains Cruz for the upcoming draft as he tries to make it back into the NBA. An absorbing underdog story filled with humor and heart, Hustle is one of the most entertaining films of 2022.
