‘Knocked Up’
“Wait a minute,” said no one, “aren’t you the girl who wrote about the reasons that Knocked Up is sexist? Yes I am, and I stand by that, but you know what? A lot of movies are sexist! And though I wish I did not have to, I learned how to compartmentalize a long time ago so that I could actually enjoy movies. Knocked Up—which stars Seth Rogen as a goofy loser and Katherine Heigl as the successful E! News reporter he gets accidentally pregnant—remains one of Judd Apatow’s funniest and sweetest comedies, thanks in large part to Rogen’s easy likability and Leslie Mann’s biting comedic delivery. Upon my last rewatch, I fell over laughing at Kristen Wiig as Heigl’s passive-aggressive boss who makes pointed comments like, “We just want you to be healthy… by eating less.” (Seriously, when will Kristen Wiig bless us with another comedy?) In classic Apatow fashion, Knocked Up—now streaming on Hulu—will make you laugh, you cry and feel just a little bit better about this crazy world we live in.
