‘Losing Alice’
The first of Apple TV+’s original TV programming of 2021, Losing Alice is an Israeli language, slow burn neo-noir thriller with a winking nod to Fatal Attraction and David Lynch. The titular Alice (Ayelet Zurer) is thrust out of her seemingly happy, yet complacent, life as parent and former A-list writer/director after a chance meeting with Sophie (Lihi Kornowski), a sexy stranger on a train (Lihi Kornowski) and Alice’s biggest fan—who just happened to write her own script. Oh, and did we mention Alice’s famous actor husband David (Gal Toren) is thinking of playing the lead role? The series unravels slowly and carefully, centering on the intricate and sometimes erotic relationship between this triangle of frustrated husband and wife and the unmoored, sexually charged interloper. But it’s also a glaring commentary on Alice’s complex feelings of aging, professional irrelevance and motherhood.
