‘Marry Me’
It’s not every day that a movie like Marry Me launches itself into the cultural zeitgeist. This feel-good rom-com has it all: J.Lo, fantastic chemistry, a bopping soundtrack, and above all, the most preposterous premise of all time. In case you haven’t seen the trailer, a quick run-down — Kat Valdez (J. Lo) is an international superstar about to marry her equally-famous beau Bastian (Maluma) live, in a big wedding performance. But wait! Right before Kat is set to hit the stage to wed Bastian, the news leaks that he’s cheating on her. As you’d probably expect, the pop-star does something super reasonable. She selects some random schmuck (Owen Wilson) from the crowd and marries him instead. Why? Because this is Marry Me, that’s why. Marry Me is in no way a deep film, but it is profound in its aim to make blockbuster movies fun, goofy, and warm-hearted.
