‘Milk’
It’s never going to be not timely to revisit the story of Harvey Milk, the SanFrancisco gay activist who utilized a particularly cinematic brand of bravado in politics in order to advance the cause of his people. Milk advocated for solidarity among the gay people of San Francisco, for everybody who could to come out and be counted, and for this victimized and put-upon subculture to harness their power. It’s a story that is no less applicable today. Milk on film is a tragedy, but it’s one that’s been brought to life with the verve of Sean Penn, Emile Hirsch, Allison Pill, Diego Luna, and James Franco. And if you spent at least part of your weekend watching Josh Brolin playing a despicable, murderous villain, you could always keep that theme going with this movie as well.
