‘No Hard Feelings’
No Hard Feelings was sold as star and producer Jennifer Lawrence’s ode to the raunchy sex comedies of yore, but it’s stealthily so much more. Maddie (Jennifer Lawrence) is a Montauk native who can’t seem to catch a break. After her car is impounded, she decides to answer a Craigslist ad placed by two wealthy helicopter parents who have transplanted to the area for the summer. They want Maddie to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) before he goes to college in the fall. In exchange, Maddie will get a car she can use for the Uber pickups she depends on to pay the back taxes on her childhood home. The skeevy set up is ironically the point. No Hard Feelings is as much a scintillating screwball comedy as it is a withering social satire. Percy’s parents think their wealth gives them the right to possess everything, from Montauk real estate to their son’s sex life. The friendship that develops between Maddie and Percy is as inspiring as it is unlikely. No Hard Feelings is an absolute gem of a film that just so happens to feature an instantly iconic nude scene from its star.
