‘Outer Range’
For those who have been searching for a new series to get into, look no further. Outer Range is a Western sci-fi that centers on the Abbott family, who own a ranch on hundreds of acres of land in Wyoming. But life on the ranch takes a turn for the worst when Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) discovers a large, black void on the outskirts of their land. Unsettled by this new discovery, and the arrival of a mysterious newcomer on their land, Royal must find a way to keep the ranch – and his family – under control, even when it feels like the universe is working against them. Outer Range is a slow-burn sci-fi mystery that feels like it pays off in every single episode. Brolin’s electrifying performance as Royal is well supported by the stars who play his family, Lili Taylor, Lewis Pullman, and Tom Pelphrey. As Royal tries to understand the innate horror of the void, the series feels eerily reminiscent of Jordan Peele’s Nope.
