‘Personal Best’
Mariel Hemingway as an aspiring Olympian? It’s more plausible than you think! Personal Best features then rising-star Hemingway as Chris Cahill, a young pentathlete trying to qualify for the 1980 Olympic team who starts a romantic relationship with veteran track and field competitor, Tory (played by real-life track star Patrice Donnelly). Personal Best was one of the first mainstream films (written, produced and directed by the legendary Robert Towne) to explore a loving, romantic relationship between two female leads and to offer a riveting look into the world of women’s athletics.
