‘RRR’
There’s always a lot of griping whenever a three hour long movie is released in theaters. Do we really need to see Batman mope to Nirvana for 180 minutes? Really? Yet the three hour plus runtime of RRR is a delightful breeze, and I wish it was twice as long. It’s extra surprising because this is an Indian Telugu-language historical epic that, at least on Netflix, is only available in Hindi. But even the language barrier doesn’t matter because it is so freakin’ rad the entire time. The story, extremely loosely based on historical fact, follows the fictional meeting between two future revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), as they become best friends, and ultimately come to blows. The action is epic and over-the-top, the visuals are stunning, the music — and dance sequences! — rule, and after you’re done, you’ll only want more from director S. S. Rajamouli. Do yourself a favor, and put aside the three hours tonight. You won’t be sorry.
