‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’
Is the second Star Wars spinoff movie Solo: A Star Wars Story necessary? No. Is it fun anyway? Sure is. The unfairly maligned flick went through some serious behind-the-scenes turmoil, including the ouster of directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller in favor of Ron Howard, lost cast members (Michael K. Williams originally played the role now played by Paul Bettany), massive reshoots, and some dicey plot-points (I will never get over the retcon of the Millennium Falcon’s origin, or the unfair fridging of one particular character). But put all that aside — and you really can — it’s a fun adventure film with some sequences that are a blast to watch. If you go in expecting a Star Wars epic, you’ll be disappointed. But as a mild fantasy action movie diversion? Solo is a Star Wars story worth telling.
