‘Southern Comfort’
As part of a routine training exercise, nine National Guard soldiers venture into the Louisiana bayou. After getting lost, the men steal a few small boats, destroy fishing nets and fire off blanks at angry Cajun trappers. In response, the locals hunt and kill seven of the guardsmen using incredibly efficient homemade booby traps. Good soldiers Corporal Hardin (Powers Boothe) and PFC Spencer (Keith Carradine) manage to flee and must rely on their wits to survive in the swamp. Expertly directed by Walter Hill, Southern Comfort is a southern-fried masterpiece enhanced by memorable performances and stylish action sequences.
