‘Speed’
With Die Hard celebrating its 30th anniversary and Skyscraper in theaters reminding us what Die Hard would have been like if it had been set in a … [squints at paper] high rise tower?! Anyway, with Die Hard on the brain, we set out to reminisce about the “Die Hard on a [name the location]” knock-off movies that followed in its wake. By a wide margin, the best of these movies was Speed, the 1994 movie about an innocent Los Angeles city bus that got armed with a bomb that would detonate if the bus dipped beloe 50 miles per hour. Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock made for iconic action stars, and Dennis Hopper plays one of the great screen villains as the mad bomber. Implausible? Sure. Exhilarating? Most damn definitely.
