‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’
Rarely, if ever, do we hear about the folks who run the ship, or those run the lower decks in Starfleet. This hilarious series follows four supporting crew members who, whether they’re just starting out on the Cerritos or they’re just trying to kiss ass to rise in rank, manage to find chaos at every turn. The episodic tales guided by the rash decisions of Mariner Beckett, D’Vana Tendi, and Sam Rutherford (spoiler, not Brad Boimler) provide a much-needed comedic, refreshing take on the usual seriousness of Starfleet. The series also approaches the unthinkable: that maybe some crew members don’t want to become captain of a ship one day and enjoy working on the warp core. More than once the show has proven that it can boldy go where no Star Trek series has gone before and become both canon as well as a solid standalone tale.
