‘Stargate’
Stargate often gets overshadowed by two other “Star” franchises (those would be Star Wars and Star Trek), but it really should be put on even footing — and that all kicks off with Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich’s phenomenally fun 1994 adventure movie. Built around a mysterious, ancient alien artifact that can transport people instantly between distant planets (that would be the titular Stargate), the flick dabbles in Egyptian mythology; but is mostly an excuse for a rollicking sci-fi adventure starring Kurt Russell and James Spader at their most fun.
