‘Summer Of Sam’
Spike Lee’s Summer of Sam, undoubtedly one of the most underrated films of the 90s, takes place at the height of the hysteria surrounding the “Son of Sam” killer in 1977. The film examines the effects of extreme paranoia on an Italian American community whose members are unwilling to recognize and accept changing times. With strong performances from John Leguizamo, Mira Sorvino, Adrien Brody and Michael Rispoli, Summer of Sam is a sticky, moody, drama that perfectly evokes a painful episode in recent NYC history.
