‘Suspiria’ (2018)
Dario Argento’s Suspiria is considered by many hardcore horror fans to be one of the scariest movies of all-time, but the only thing it has in common with Luca Guadagino’s (Call Me By Your Name) 2018 remake is the setting: a dance school secretly run by a coven of witches. Guadagino’s film, which stars Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson, still delivers on the scares, but veers from the giallo masterpiece by significantly upping the gross out quotient and run time (this one is nearly an hour longer). It’s worth watching for Swinton’s bravura performances alone; I say “performances” because she appears here in not one, not two, but three different characters. Take that, Eddie Murphy!
