‘The Bikeriders’
Inspired by a collection of photography and stories by photographer Danny Lyon, The Bikeriders follows the lives of the members of the Vandals Motorcycle Club (based on the real Outlaws MC) in the late ’60s and early ’70s. Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, and Jodie Comer lead the cast as Vandals member Benny Cross, founder Johnny Davis, and Kathy Bauer, who stumbles upon the Benny and Vandals one night and never looks back. Spanning roughly eight years, the film depicts the Vandals as the club expands, grows, and begins to turn into something more violent than Johnny had ever imagined. There are cool motorcycles, Butler’s effortless charm, chemistry between all three leads, Comer and Hardy’s midwestern accents battling for dominance — and really, what more could you want out of a movie? The Bikeriders is definitely the kind of movie I’d consider “not much plot, all vibes” — which is not a bad thing at all! — but it already has a worthy place in the “dudes rock” film canon after just a few weeks in the world.
