‘The Candidate’
This 1972 satire features Robert Redford as idealistic lawyer Bill McKay, chosen by Democrats as a placeholder candidate to challenge the sure-to-win incumbent Republican Senator. Along the way, however, the unexpected occurs: McKay’s message resonates with voters, and the challenger receives timely endorsements. The film’s most memorable line? “What do we do now?”
