‘The Consultant’
Looking for a workplace thriller to hold you over until Severance Season 2 drops? Join the club. While The Consultant, Prime Video’s new six-episode new dark comedic thriller, doesn’t live up to Dan Erickson’s critically acclaimed Apple TV+ series, the breezy binge takes you on an unexpectedly wild ride. Adapted from Bentley Little’s 2015 novel of the same name, the series stars Christoph Waltz as Regus Patoff, a consultant who arrives at the app-based gaming company CompWare shortly after its CEO is mysteriously murdered. When employees Craig (Nat Wolff) and Elaine (Brittany O’Grady) start digging into Patoff’s past, their investigation leads them to fear for their jobs and their lives. Sure, The Consultant includes several plot points that can only be described as ridiculous, but it’s effectively suspenseful from start to finish, successfully satirizes the workplace, and features a performance from Waltz so compelling that it makes the watch worthwhile.
