‘The Kitchen’
If you love community and hate cops, you’ll love the feature directorial debut from actor Daniel Kaluuya, which began streaming on Netflix on Friday. The Kitchen, which Kaluuya co-directed with Kibwe Tavares, takes place in a dystopian futuristic version of London where all public housing has been outlawed. Despite that, some low-income residents refuse to leave their suddenly illegal home. British rapper Kane Robinson, aka Kano, stars as a man only interested in surviving and thriving on his own—until a young boy enters his life. The Kitchen is a light touch of a movie, more interested in themes and vibes than it is in plot—but those vibes are immaculate.
