‘The Leftovers’
The 10-year anniversary of Damon Lindelof’s supernatural HBO drama The Leftovers is approaching in June 2024, and I’m mortified to admit that I’m currently watching the — quite frankly, life-changing — show for the first time ever. Adapted from Tom Perrotta’s bestselling novel, the three-season series checks in with residents of Mapleton, New York, three years after millions of people inexplicably vanished from the world in a mass departure. Starring Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Christopher Eccleston, Amy Brenneman, Liv Tyler, Ann Dowd, Margaret Qualley, and a slew of other incredible talents, The Leftovers tells engrossing, mind-bending stories of loss, tragedy, faith, love, and survival. Thought-provoking, thrilling, and haunting, the brilliant series masterfully outdoes itself season after season with stellar standout episodes, moving performances, and bold creative risks. We also know The Leftovers is elite, because like Better Call Saul, it’s never won an Emmy. It’s beyond them! It may have taken me a decade to watch, but The Leftovers has officially earned a spot on my list of all-time favorite shows.
