‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’
Feeling a little sick of Santa, mistletoe, and candy-eating elves? Cozy up this Christmas with Gandalf, Aragorn, and the hobbits. Twenty-odd years ago, we all spent our holiday breaks at the movies, watching Peter Jackson’s landmark Lord of the Rings trilogy over three back-to-back Christmases. The super-sized movies tell the story of how one lowly hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), and his band of friends fight against impossible odds to destroy the One Ring forever. The unlikely heroes travel across the mountains and through the bowels of Middle-earth, only to be separated before their ultimate, spectacular final stand. The epic trilogy starts with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, which for my money is a perfect cozy watch. It’s spectacularly gorgeous, full of mesmerizing action sequences, and, most importantly, a testament to the triumph of good over evil. Heck yes, The Lord of the Rings are Christmas movies.
