‘The Pacific with Sam Neill’
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been in quarantine for a year and are desperate to travel further than from your bedroom to your living room. That’s why The Pacific with Sam Neill is an absolutely perfect binge. The series, which you can stream for free on Ovation’s travel-focused Journy platform, is a gorgeous tour of the islands and countries of the Pacific, from New Zealand and Australia to the Alaskan coastline and Hawaii. This isn’t just a nature series with breathtaking drone shots. The show traces the voyages of explorer Captain Cook, but it gives most of its attention to the indigenous cultures whose lives were touched and ravaged by colonization. This is the other side of the Euro-centric history we’re taught—and it is fascinating and essential! Also you get to see hunky Sam Neill go on adventures, like climbing a volcano and diving with whales. He’s a treasure, and this is a gem of a nature series.
