‘Wynonna Earp’
Melanie Scrofano is Wynonna Earp, the great-great granddaughter of the famous lawman Wyatt Earp. She’s the only woman in the world able to hold Peacemaker, a magical gun that can send demons back to Hell. Along with her sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) and the resurrected Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon), they fight to save the town of Purgatory… and the world. Except, with all that seeming gloom and doom, the show never really takes itself seriously (until it suddenly, gut-wrenchingly does). Wynonna is a knock-down drunk, and sort of a terrible person. Her jokes are whip smart, the insults and pop culture remarks are pointed and hilarious. And the snowy setting makes it feel unique, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Unforgiven. Add in one of the best LGBT couples on TV with the relationship between Waverly and the hilariously named Officer Haught (say it out loud), and you have a sneaky classic that will please fans of fantasy, westerns, and just generally great TV.
