‘Game of Thrones’: There Were Two Plastic Water Bottles in the Series Finale

Two weeks after Game of Thrones surprised viewers with the coffee cup seen ’round the world, the HBO drama has made yet another props gaffe. In Sunday night’s Game of Thrones series finale, “The Iron Throne,” two plastic water bottles can very clearly be seen at the feet of Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) and Samwell Tarly (John Bradley). Unless Westeros has suddenly developed a Dasani packaging facility — perhaps they could call it Daeneri — these are decidedly modern-day items, and it seems that Cunningham and Bradley may be the culprits. Game of Thrones fans who spotted the gaffe weren’t too kind on social media, with many calling out the show for “another careless mistake.”

After eight seasons, the Game of Thrones series finale finally revealed who won the Iron Throne… Bran Stark (yes, you read that right). As it turns out, Bran’s sitting-and-staring tactics actually impressed Tyrion (Peter Dinklage), who went to bat for Bran before a panel of the lords and ladies of Westeros. As Tyrion makes his case, the camera pans to the lords and ladies, and at that moment — around the 46:19 mark in HBO Go — a plastic water bottle can clearly be seen at the feet of Samwell Tarly. The scene continues, and about three minutes later, at the 49:05 mark, another water bottle can be seen behind Ser Davos’ legs. Whoops.

Viewers were quick to point out Game of Thrones‘ water bottle gaffe on social media, and they slammed producers for allowing yet another major mistake to make it into the final cut. “A water bottle in King’s Landing!!” tweeted one eagle-eyed viewer. “This show is a joke,” wrote another. “In the two fucking years you guys took to make this fucking season no one caught the coffee cup or the fucking water bottle?” asked another fan.

The water bottles in the Game of Thrones series finale are currently still in the show, but after the coffee cup debacle in Season 8, Episode 4, HBO re-edited the episode to remove the offending cup, so its possible they could do the same for the bottles. Until then, make sure to stay hydrated — especially you, Ser Davos and Samwell Tarly. Bitches be thirsty.
