Everybody’s latest obsession Squid Game: The Challenge comes to an end on December 6, 2023, but will there be more?

The Netflix reality competition started with 456 players, but only three are advancing to the finale where they will compete to win a cash prize of $4.56 million.

Inspired by the hit streaming series, the competition features familiar tasks, including “Red Light, Green Light” and the Dalgona Candy Challenge.

The series premiered on November 22, 2023 with five episodes, followed by the next four and then the anticipated finale.

With only one episode left to air, memorable moments from the series include the strange feud between Leann and Lorenzo, Spencer getting bullied to tears by his teammates, Ashley refusing to take her turn during the Glass Bridge challenge, and TJ’s emotional elimination.

Wondering if there’s more in store? Here’s everything we know about the future of Squid Game: The Challenge.

Will There Be A Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2?

We have great news for you! On December 6, 2023 Squid Game: The Challenge was renewed for a second season on Netflix.

“There was no red light in our decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series, in a press release. “We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”

Prior to the news, executive producers Stephen Lambert and John Hay expressed their hope to continue the show in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“That’s all in the hands of our dear friends at Netflix, if they have the desire whether they want to do it again.. If viewers love the show, and from what we understand, the people do, Netflix will publish numbers for the first week so it will be interesting to see what those numbers are like. If they’re good, then who knows, maybe they’ll want to do another season,” said Lambert.

Hay added, “It’s brilliant it’s landed as well as it has, and we’re really enjoying all the responses to it… It probably is too early to judge, but we would obviously love to [do season 2]. We think it’s a game with potential, so let’s see.”

Well, hey! Dreams do come true! It’s no surprise that Netflix renewed the series as, according to Deadline, the show has had impressive viewership numbers in the United States and the United Kingdom. Additionally, Netflix reports that the show has spent two weeks in the Global Top 10 TV (English) and reached Top 10 in 93 countries.

When Will Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 Premiere?

As of now, Squid Game: The Challenge has not set an exact date for its Season 2 premiere; however, casting is underway at SquidGameCasting.com. The first season premiered roughly 17 months after casting went live, so by that indication, the next season should premiere in early 2025. Perhaps, this time around, production will be speedier as they already have the bells and whistles ironed out. We are holding out for late 2024 release!
