George Clooney may have returned to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) as Bruce Wayne in The Flash this June, but fans shouldn’t expect him to don the Batsuit any time soon.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his newest film, The Boys in the Boat, Clooney joked about thinking “there was such a clamor for [him] to come back,” per Entertainment Weekly .

“I actually said, ‘Where are my rubber nipples?'” he quipped. “And they were like, ‘Can we do it without the rubber nipples?’ I was like, ‘Well, it’s not really my Batman, is it?”

When asked if he could be convinced again, he replied, “I don’t think there’s enough drugs in the world for me to go back again.”

Clooney took on the role of Batman in Batman & Robin, which hit theaters in 1997. While the film has since garnered rather nasty reviews — including an 11% on Rotten Tomatoes — Clooney seems to agree with the critics. In 2021, the actor quipped that he “did one superhero movie and [he] fucked it up so bad they won’t let [him] near the set,” per People.

According to EW, Clooney appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week, where he shared that his son is “in love with Batman.”

“And I’m like, ‘You know I was Batman?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, not anymore,’” he recalled. “He has no idea how right he is. How do you tell your 6-year-old son that Batman had nipples?”

With respect to the aforementioned “rubber nipples,” Batman & Robin‘s late director Joel Schumacher defended the controversial “Bat-nipples” in a 2017 interview with Vice, explaining that by the 1995 release of his Batman Forever, “rubber molding had become so much more advanced.”

“So I said, let’s make it anatomical and gave photos of those Greek status and those incredible anatomical drawings you see in medical books.”

Tim Burton — who directed Batman (1989) and Batman Returns (1992) — on the other hand, aired his grievances surrounding the infamous “Bat-nipples” to Empire in 2022.

“‘You complain about me, I’m too weird, I’m too dark, and then you put nipples on the costume?'” he shared. “‘Go fuck yourself.’”

Batman & Robin is streaming on Max.
