Dr. Jen Ashton received a very special send-off on this morning’s installment of Good Morning America.

Ashton, who has served as ABC‘s Chief Medical Correspondent for 13 years, received a series of tributes from members of the network, her family, and even a movie star, per Entertainment Weekly.

In a tribute video, Robin Roberts described Ashton as both “passionate and compassionate,” while Michael Strahan — who has been missing from GMA all week — teased that Ashton “brings in medical fun” to the morning news show.

“Everywhere that I go, people ask about Dr. Jen,” GMA3 anchor DeMarco Morgan shared, while Eva Pilgrim called her “really funny,” quipping that she’s “really competitive.”

ABC News Medical Correspondent Dr. Darien Sutton likened Ashton to “the Beyoncé of medicine.”

Others who praised her with video tributes were neurologist Dr. Leah Croll, her two children, and ABC News Medical Unit’s executive producer, Eric Strauss, as well as other members of the network’s medical team. The tributes were interspersed among some of Ashton’s most memorable and powerful moments on the show, including her work during the COVID-19 pandemic and her navigating her ex-husband, Rob’s suicide in 2017. After watching that, viewers saw Ashton tending to her tears with a tissue.

George Stephanopoulos told Ashton that they “have one more memory to create” after the broadcast returned to the studio, as they pulled up a “very special message” from none other than Chris Hemsworth, who previously appeared with her in an exercise segment on the show.

“Hi Jen. Chris here,” the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga star began. “Just want to say good luck, and congratulations on your next venture. Lots of love. I hope to see you soon.”

Following Hemsworth’s video, Ashton joked, “It’s really hard work a lot of times, but you know I had to step up to the plate and take that tough assignment with Chris Hemsworth…”

Ashton also was surprised by her children, brother, and parents, who joined her on set with a bouquet of flowers. Noting that they are a “medical family,” she said that her parents are “responsible for [her] passion for health and being a healer.” She concluded by thanking her co-workers and GMA viewers, citing the latter as “the reason that I do what I do and that I wake up in the morning,” while assuring them that she is “always on call for GMA and ABC News.”

Ashton broke the news of her exit in April, noting in an Instagram statement at the time that “it has been an honor to be at ABC and help cover the biggest health issues in the country and world over the past 13 years,” per USA Today. According to the outlet, she is pursuing her women’s health newsletter called Ajenda.
