Dr. Jen Ashton cries during GMA tribute and Chris Hemsworth's message on final day: 'The Beyoncé of medicine'

Hemsworth submitted a sweet video tribute to Ashton, who got emotional during the "Good Morning America" montage honoring her time on the air.

Dr. Jen Ashton shed a few tears and medical commentary during her emotional final day on Good Morning America — which also included an adorable video message from Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth.

The Chief Health and Medical Correspondent for ABC celebrated her last regular broadcast of the morning talk show Thursday as her peers surrounded her on the set, with cohost Lara Spencer introducing a sweet video montage honoring Ashton's accomplishments at the network over the last 13 years.

“Dr. Jen is passionate and compassionate, and that’s what you want, especially from a doctor,” veteran anchor Robin Roberts said at the top of the clip, which also included fellow show personality Michael Strahan telling viewers that Ashton "brings in medical fun" that's easily digestible for GMA's audience.

Dr. Darien Sutton, who regularly appears on GMA3 — the program's third hour — with Ashton, also appeared in the clip, calling his colleague "the Beyoncé of medicine" before praising her ability to "break down some complex information into understandable information" for people watching at home.

Ashton wiped tears away from her eyes during the next portion of the video, which highlighted both her regular coverage of medical emergencies in the country — from leading ABC's coverage of the COVID pandemic to offering potentially life-saving tips for people who find themselves in the middle of mass shooting incidents — as well as her candor in publicly discussing her ex-husband's 2017 suicide to raise awareness for mental health issues.

“When it became a public story again, she felt the responsibility of coming forward with that," Ashton's daughter, Chloe, said in the footage, while Roberts added: "Vulnerability, it’s a strength. It takes courage. It takes courage to share something so personal, and Jen did it in hopes of helping others."

Roberts later praised Ashton for empowering her to "advocate for myself" over the years.

Back in the studio, Ashton thanked her colleagues for the comprehensive commemoration of her career, before she returned the favor and thanked them for assisting her in getting vital information out to their audience.

“What really stands out as I look at those 13-plus years is those moments in our country’s history where together we helped people at home with insight and perspective and analysis that I think we do better than anyone in network news, here at ABC," she said. "Some of the biggest moments in our country’s history in health, we covered. That was an incredible honor and privilege."

Later, Hemsworth appeared in a short video note to wish Ashton well. "Hi Jen, Chris here! I just want to say good luck and congratulations on your next venture. Lots of love, hope to see you soon!” the star said. Ashton smiled at the clip, and brought up a past on-camera segment that saw her perform a grueling physical fitness routine with Marvel's Thor actor.

Finally, the show sent Ashton off by welcoming her family to the set.

“You’re the reason that I do what I do and that I wake up in the morning," Ashton told GMA's viewers, before signing off with an optimistic note about returning in the future. "I’m always on call for GMA and ABC News, and you guys know where to find me."

Ashton announced her departure from ABC in April. She will now pursue growing Ajenda, her free newsletter.

The 55-year-old is double-board-certified in OB-GYN and obesity medicine, and holds a degree in nutrition. Before her multi-year tenure at the network, Ashton was a medical correspondent for CBS, and regularly appeared on the syndicated talk show The Doctors, and also contributed to The Dr. Oz Show.
