About

New York based "media news and gossip" blog founded by Nick Denton and Elizabeth Spiers. Flagship blog of the Gawker Network.

Has been involved in a large number of controversies, from leaked celebrity photos and tapes to unpaid interns.

Gawker filed for bankruptcy after losing a lawsuit with former wrestling star Hulk Hogan — whose sex tape Gawker had published, and refused to take down despite a judge's order. Gawker assets were purchased by Univision, which continued running Gawker's subsidiaries as "Gizmodo Media", but closed Gawker itself.

GamerGate info

Took a strong stance against GamerGate — whose original mobilisation was against Gawker Network's gaming blog, Kotaku. This eventually caused GamerGate to make Gawker the primary target of its "Operation Disrespectful Nod" e-mail caimpagn, which is rumored to have cost Gawker seven figures.
