To understand how much Americans around the country are shelling out on energy, WalletHub analyzed electricity, natural gas, motor fuel and home heating oil prices in each of the 50 states. Using that data, Visual Capitalist mapped the total monthly energy costs per state, as of June 3, 2024.
Wyoming is home to the highest energy bills by far, with the total monthly cost averaging at a whopping $1,591. Following behind is North Dakota ($840), Iowa ($798) and Montana ($787).
On the other hand, energy is cheapest in New Mexico, where the average monthly bill is just $376, and Arizona, where residents pay $400.
