Western Wind

Western wind, when wilt thou blow,
The small rain down can rain?
Christ, if my love were in my arms
And I in my bed again!

  1. Hello Christopher, reading this ancient poem was my first assignment in freshman english at John Carroll University. It was during the summer session of 1973. I had to write a composition explicating the poem. I got a B on it. I still have the paper I submitted.I just texted "Western Wind" to my girlfriend. It started raining lightly here in Louisiana and my girlfriend is far away in Cleveland, Ohio. Although I have not thought of this poem in 39 years tonight's "small rain" and my separation from my sweetheart created the romantic imagery that brought this poem back into my head. I thought I'd share this with you on your poetry blog. I'm happy to be your first poster too.
