Okay so if you're a vegan, you may want to like, NOT stop here. Unless you're really desperate. I had it a few months back - the Sicilian veganized. Awful, just awful.
I guess making it vegan meant no sauce at all so the pizza was extremely dry and cardboard like. They did load the heck out of the pizza with sundried tomato morsels, but they were kind of a pain to deal with as there was no adhering substance to keep them on the pizza. Artichoke hearts were in rarer form, but still delicious.
I mean I get the sauce was probably not vegan, thus not included, but I wish they had included the marinara sauce or something? I had to add my own moist ingredient at home - some salad dressing, to make it easier to chew and masticate.
All in all, just not very tasty. I guess if you're not a vegan, Rotolo's might fare better for you.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Marielle S.New Orleans, LA20022997241Jan 12, 2011
Great food and they actually carry Kroenenbourg! Can you believe it?? I have never had a dish here that I didn't like.
I usually get the muffaletta calzone! Mmmm....so good! The "Sweep the floor" breadsticks are another fave. This location is HUGE, so if you have a big group, they can accomodate you and it is walking distance from good Quarter bars.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jan 2, 2010
Good pizza, bier, and service - located right as you are about to enter Bourbon Street, it's a great place to "fill your belly" with good, flavorful, quality pizza (and calzone). Additionally, Rotolos features products from the Abita Brewery...a local brewery, located thirty miles north of New Orleans. Great bier and flavor, you can not miss ordering an Abita brewed nectar. The ale is on tap, and other Abita brews are available in bottles. All nectar produced (at least the three varieties that I imbibed) are tasty, flavorful, and worth a second, third, and even a fourth look. Andy Gator bier is 8% flavorful brew that makes you feel good!
My buddy and I spent our time at the bar - service was quick and responsive. It seems that in New Orleans, probably more than other places, if you treat folks well (especially waiters/waitresses) they reciprocate.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Andrea H.New Orleans, LA26915223Jun 25, 2011
I don't get the low reviews. I like this place. I have been coming here since it opened! It's clean, and never busy (although, I don't venture here on weekends or until after 7..)
The food sometimes takes awhile, but I never have a problem vegan-izing the sandwiches. The salads are EPIC. Huge, and their dressing selection is enviable. The menu has definitely changed since I first started eating at rotolo's, but it's still good, and actually healthier.
I would recommend this place for someone who wants to just eat some pizza in peace and quiet. No, it's not fancy, it's just a pizza joint. But, it has bathrooms and a full bar.
My only advice to the management would be that if the staff is going to sit at the bar and complain, they should at least do it out of earshot of the customers.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Ernest S.New Orleans, LA4373316Aug 13, 2007First to Review
My group went here 1 hour before a show at the House of Blues and the service was pathetic. Slow and incompetent are two words that come to mine. The food was actually pretty good, but not worth waiting for. If you want to experience life in slow motion then go here, otherwise stay away.
Interestingly, when I searched for online reviews (none yet in Yelp) I found a review in City Search that began thusly: "Went here before a show at HOB. Waited about 10 min until server came. Waiter took drink orders - 15 min later brought wrong drink orders."
Enough said.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kent L.Los Angeles, CA1921437Feb 27, 2011
Came with a group who had a hankering for pizza after a week of NOLA food and I have to say I was quite disappointed. Sure, the quantity is there but not the quality. Started with cheese sticks with marinara and spinach and artichoke dip: neither was anything to write home about, plus two of the plates we were given still had old cheese and food bits on them.
Salads looked pretty good but pizza dough is the foundation to a good pizza and this place just doesn't have it. Most of the group didn't think enough of their choices to finish it and I would have to have been seriously impaired to think that this place had good food.
On the plus side, we were 6 people and were seated immediately because Rotolo's was pretty empty and with good reason.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Yajaira Z.Laredo, TX85652Feb 26, 2012

This review is for the bar only. The bartender was really friendly, efficient and poured great drinks. The regular prices are extremely reasonable, and then they have specials on certain dates and times that are crazy cheap!

In contrast to the review below, my experience at Rotolo's was pretty good. I walked in, ordered at the bar (for carryout), and enjoyed myself by soaking up the atmosphere while I waited (about 15-20 minutes, and totally worth it). The vibe here was very laid-back and chill. When I walked in, someone had brought their slice outside and was sitting on the steps eating, which was a good sign. There's just something fundamentally appealing about a pizza place where you can walk in, grab a slice, and hang around and eat it without having to sit at a table or use napkins.
A guy was playing live music (guitar) up on a balcony above the seating area...this was really nice, and sort of incongruous, considering the place could not be much more informal than it already is. I didn't realize the music was being played by an actual human on the premises until I looked up and saw this guitar player looking at me... What's especially nice about this is that it's a welcome break from the music blasted at ear-shattering decibels by most bars/restaurants/souvenir shops in this part of the city. (Not sure how often Rotolo's has live music...I came here on a Friday night.)
The woman who took my order was friendly, and I chatted with her as I watched my game on tv (Michigan basketball, and yes, we lost). I love walking into random restaurants/bars in different parts of the country and finding that the channel is tuned to Michigan football/basketball (it has yet to be hockey...hmm). Even if the staff hasn't tuned to the game on purpose, I like to interpret it as a nod to the supremacy of Wolverine sports.
But let's assume, just for a moment, that you're not in the market for a place in NOLA where you can watch Michigan compete. Let's assume you're looking for some decent pizza in the Quarter. Um...I didn't have pizza. I did have a calzone, however, and it was great. I was craving the dough, the cheese, the sauce...the whole mess. Rotolo's got the job done, and in style. Calzone was large, not something that had been defrosted, and flavorful. In fact, the pepperoni actually had a little bit of kick to it, which was unexpected and not entirely welcomed by this white girl. For those of you who are into flavor and spice, I recommend it. The mushrooms were fresh, and the dough was mmm.
For the quality of the food and size of the portions, the prices are fair. If you're in any kind of hurry, it seems like Rotolo's is not the best of choices. However, if you're looking for a place to get some tasty grub and just hang out for a couple of hours, this is it.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Greg M.Monroe City, IN03Sep 1, 2009
Food was good but service was exceptional. We both ordered Abita Amber draft which was delivered immediately. Note here: We got there about 8:45 - unknown to us $1.00 drafts began at 9:00. The server went out of her way to get our beers but "wink, wink" not serve them until 9:00 "wink, wink". We ordered the "sweep the floor" cheesesticks - enough food we could have stopped there. Pizza came before we got our sticks finished. Both items were very good. Our server offered to refill our marinara dip to go home with the balance of the leftovers.
This was not a very busy night. If the serving team was understaffed I could see how this might be a problem.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
