Our mission is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

About us

As of July 1, 2021, the Alzheimer Societies of Elgin-St. Thomas, London and Middlesex, and Oxford have unified to become one organization, the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners. For decades, the three organizations have worked alongside each other serving people living with dementia and their care partners throughout our region. This unification will allow us to work together as one organization to deliver a wider range of dementia support programs and services available to more people in more places. Together we will be stronger and better able to serve those living with dementia, their care partners and their families.

  • Have you met…Jodi? Jodi just celebrated her first anniversary as a First Link Care Navigator with Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners working out of our Woodstock office! Congrats on your first year Jodi! 🌟 In her role, Jodi meets with people living with a dementia diagnosis or experiencing cognitive decline and their care partners, sharing community resources. Her job also includes helping clients with system navigation, providing education and awareness about dementia and building community partnerships with other community service providers who have a shared goal of easing the accessibility of dementia supports and resources to those who need it. Three fast 💨 facts about Jodi: 1️⃣ One thing I always get excited about is spending time with my family, when we all get together, its always a good time. 💕 2️⃣ My dream vacation will always be going to Jamaica. Its beauty brings a peace that words cannot explain. It goes far beyond the white sand beaches and clear blue waters. 🏖️ If you know where to look, you will find that it is hidden in the resilience of its people. 🌺 3️⃣ If I could recommend one book, it would be “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz. It describes four codes of personal conduct he believes are the foundation for living a more fulfilled life. It speaks about accepting things you cannot change and, most importantly, understanding that we are the sole proprietors of our own emotions and should guard them as such for a better life experience. 📘 🗨️ In Jodi’s own words: “I love my job because it allows me to fulfill my goal of living a life of servitude to others. I believe that if we all work to help somebody else then the world would be a better place.” 💙 #ourstaff #employeeintroduction #meetourteam #ouremployeesrule #haveyoumet #wehavethebeststaff #firstlinkavigator

  • Say “Hello!” 👋 to Cassidy. Cassidy has been volunteering with our group recreation program called The Social since 2023 and has already donated 157 hours. She also is an advocate for volunteering with our organization having recently spoken to high school students at the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame’s Discovery Days at Western and at the London TeenGILO event. At both events, she encouraged attendees to join our cause and spoke about the positive impact volunteering with us has had on her professional and personal development. Why does Cassidy volunteer with us? “I volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Society because I love seeing clients able to connect in an environment where they are understood,” she explained. “The friendships and community I’ve built with clients, fellow volunteers, and recreational therapists have been incredibly rewarding. Each week, I look forward to volunteering in The Social!” If you are interested in joining Cassidy and volunteering with any (or all) of our many volunteer opportunities across Elgin, London/Middlesex and Oxford, visit our website. https://buff.ly/3GO6hc5. #volunteer #volunteering #volunteertoday #dementiavolunteer #givingback #buildingcommunity #alzheimersdisease #inhomerecreation

  • Have you met…Pam? Pam has been with us as an In-home Recreation Coordinator working out of our St. Thomas office for three (3) years. The In-home Recreation Program provides personal weekly visits from an In-home Recreation Coordinator (like Pam!) or a trained volunteer. Pam delivers recreation and leisure opportunities to individuals living with dementia, which are geared toward their interests and abilities...all within the comfort of their own homes. Her visits also give care partners much-needed weekly respite time. Three fast 💨 facts about Pam: 1️⃣ My dream vacation would be… going to Ireland ☘️ 2️⃣ For fun I like to…refinish older furniture, bringing beauty and life back into it. 🪑 🔨 3️⃣ My favourite movie is… Erin Brockovich. 🍿 📽️ 🗨️ In Pam’s own words: “I love my job because it is so rewarding seeing my clients smile and laugh. It feels wonderful to know that I am making a difference in their life at that moment.” 💙 #ourstaff #employeeintroduction #meetourteam #ouremployeesrule #haveyoumet #wehavethebeststaff #inhomerecreation

  • Say “Hello!” 👋 to Farzan from Middlesex! Now…Farzan is a bit camera-shy, but we certainly will not hold that against him. Photo or not, his wonderful work as a volunteer should be recognized! Farzan is a new volunteer to our In-home Recreation program having recently completed his first 12-week match and he is already making a huge impact. “Our Fridays with Farzan were full of positivity,” shared his match’s care partner. “His genuine curiosity and patience provided my husband with the opportunity to share memories and interests in a lovely, unhurried way. Farzan was willing to help us with technical problems and laugh with us as we enjoyed the many games and activities he suggested. It was also a case of mutual love between our little dog and Farzan. We feel so fortunate to have had the experience of getting to know this kind and gentle young man.” Why does Farzan volunteer with us? “When I first started volunteering with the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners, I was a new university student and eager to get involved in the community. Having had two grandparents with dementia, the organization’s cause was very near and dear to my heart, and I was familiar with the journey and thus felt a strong desire to help!” he said. “Having had the chance to bring warmth and joy into someone's life and connect with them has been very fulfilling. You’ll make a genuine difference in the lives of others and, in turn, enrich your own life with new perspectives and experiences. I encourage those who are interested to get involved. You’ll be glad you did!” If you are interested in joining Farzan and volunteering with any (or all) of our many volunteer opportunities across Elgin, London/Middlesex and Oxford, visit our website. https://buff.ly/3GO6hc5. #volunteer #volunteering #volunteertoday #dementiavolunteer #givingback #buildingcommunity #alzheimersdisease #inhomerecreation
