Dot IO and the People of Chagos

For years now, I've been using ".io" domains for a variety of projects, including this, my personal website. Since acquiring these domains, I've learned more about the sad dark side of ".io" and the plight of the people of Chagos. To learn more about the issue, and to support the Chagossian people, I recommend visiting the U.K. Chagos Support Association website, which describes the situation succinctly:

What Happened – Chagossians were forcibly expelled from their homes in the Chagos Islands by the British Governement 40 years ago. They have been prevented from returning ever since.

What We Want – We call on the British Government to allow the Chagossian people to return to their homeland, and provide proper compensation and an apology for everything they have suffered.

What We Do – We work to draw attention to the islanders’ plight, to help them in their struggle and to support them in hardship. Our patrons are Ben Fogle and Benjamin Zephaniah.

I've made the personal decision to support the Chagoassian people through donations to the U.K. Chagos Support Association as a way to ensure that they see their fair shair of profits from my ".io" domains. Others have chosed to stop registering ".io" domains all together. I encourage you to make the right decision for you personally, and either way to consider a donation to help these displaced islanders return to their homeland.
