I really enjoyed it on one listen. Cohesive story telling, excellent muscianship, and nice vocal performance by the Sturg man. Selfishly, I wish it were a bit longer. Even more selfishly, I wish he'd do Sound & Fury II (or at least complete the tour that COVID killed)

    I agree on all points.

We had great seats for the S&F tour...then it was scrapped. Hoping he tours for that record again next year.

I read that he's decided that he was a bluegrass musician for a while, and that Sound and Fury was his way of getting out of his record deal to move to a label who would allow him to do so. I definitely hope he returns to his beautiful folk/country songwriting. This album is an interesting mix of what he's done to-date, and also what he loves.

Did you preregister for the sale? I think each show had a separate link. I was texted and emailed the link with a code but I think it works only for the one show.

Got tix for the show in St Paul. Playing the worst venue in the Twin Cities, Roy Wilkins Auditorium. No music concerts have been held there since the start of COVID. It’s that bad.

I am excited that Laur Joamets will be back playing in the band on this tour. The guy’s a guitar ninja.

I agree with you about Laur coming back that's the main reason I decided to get tickets.

Yes - did it for a couple shows and didn't get anything.  We'll see how the presale goes tomorrow.  Thanks for responding.

No single was a fun move even though I've been dying for one

The only mention I've found about what it sounds like via reddit from Lexington Herald Leader:

The third part of the Simpson makeover will be a new album — credited to Johnny Blue Skies. Does that indicate the record, “Passage Du Desir,” represents yet another stylistic rebirth?

Not exactly. It’s possibly Simpson’s (oops, Blue Skies’) most accessible work to date, a blend of country and soul accents that sounds like it could have prefaced “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.” More specific reviews are embargoed until the album’s release on July 12. Check back with us then."

After a couple of listens I like the new album. More of a mellow sound than I expected.

No idea how to describe this album but I like it. Last song is my favorite after one listen.

My favorites so far are Who I Am and Scooter Blues. I would say most of it has a country/blues sound.

I really like it. Much more straightforward sound than I would have guessed. Scooter Blues is a little too red solo cup-y but maybe it will grow on me.

New album gives off a My Morning Jacket vibe IMO....which is a great thing.

This new album is soooo gooood!

Jupiter’s Faerie, for me, may be the most beautiful, pull at the heartstrings songs ever.

I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing. As one reviewer recently described Sturgill: he's a graduate of the Neil Young school of not giving a f_>k and staying true to his own muse.
