Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates
Featured and good topics in Wikipedia A featured topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles).A good topic is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic. This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the featured and good topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic. If you would like to ask any questions about your topic and the featured/good topic process before submitting it, visit Wikipedia talk:Featured and good topic candidates. Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at Featured and good topic questions. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly. The featured and good topics coordinators Aza24, MaranoFan and Kyle Peake determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived. To contact the FTC coordinators, please leave a message on the FTC talk page, or use the {{@FTC}} notification template elsewhere. You may want to check previous archived nominations first: |

Nomination procedure[edit]To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button. Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic. For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure. Supporting and objecting[edit]Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured and good topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.
For a topic to be promoted to featured or good topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. The FGTC coordinators are usually the ones to assess this consensus and close FGTC discussions. If there is a consensus to promote, the promote instructions are located here. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate. |

2008 Summer Olympics[edit]
The 2008 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and officially branded as Beijing 2008, were an international multi-sport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China. A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees competed in 28 sports and 302 events. China, who was hosting the Olympics for the first won, won the most gold medals (48) while an unprecedented 87 countries won at least one medal.

I happened to notice that Wikipedia:Featured topics/1952 Winter Olympics exists and, in looking for lists to work on, I noticed that the same set of lists were also promoted for the 2008 Summer Olympics. As such, I'd like to nominate it for featured topic status. The main article was promoted to GA in 2013 and survived a GA re-assessment in 2023. The medal table list was promoted in 2008 and the medal winners and venues lists were promoted in 2009. Note that I haven't contributed to the topic, I'm just nominating the set since it matches another topic. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:09, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Josh, this would need a short paragraph at the top to satisfy the topic criteria. You could probably adapt it from the lead of 2008 Summer Olympics. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 18:55, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- @TechnoSquirrel69: Blech, Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure needs a rework... I've added something brief since it's not clear to me just how much / what the nominators would want for this. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:08, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: I get that this topic directly matches the 1952 Winter equivalent, I'd actually argue that the 1952 topic is incomplete without the torch relay article as it is in the primary category (it was created in 2012, after the topic was passed in 2011). The problem is that Wikipedia's coverage of the 2008 Summer Games is much more extensive than that of the 1952 Winter edition. There are many more articles which could very well be included in a topic which covers the tournament in whole, such as the chronological summary, bids, opening and closing ceremonies, and controversies (and possibly more). Idiosincrático (talk) 20:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment There are a lot of articles in Category:2008 Summer Olympics, a few feel relevant. I'd expect for example 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in any complete topic. CMD (talk) 00:37, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- Coordinators: I'm happy to withdraw this nomination. I brought it up on the Discord and others encouraged a nomination. I do agree with the concerns raised, but I myself am not interested in completing the work that would be required to make this into a topic. I just figured I'd nominate it based on the other topic was all :) Hey man im josh (talk) 13:10, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
1989 (album) (4th supplementary nomination)[edit]
This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1989 (album) for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:
i created the article for i wish you would, and promoted it to ga status. fortunately, it still has the required amount of featured articles for this ft to remain as a featured topic. yay brachy08 (chat here lol) 02:03, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: I am curious which recent event made "I Wish You Would" suddenly notable, and why the same notability would not extend to songs like "How You Get the Girl" (whose Taylor's version charted two spots lower in Canada and nine in the US) and "I Know Places" (three spots lower in Canada and five in the US). It would be preferable not to delay those, if they are notable already, just because there aren't enough FAs for the topic to remain featured.--NØ 09:55, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hold for All You Had to Do Was Stay, which was GA-nominated just five days after the nomination. I would personally like to see the other two tracks on the standard edition join the topic together in the next addition. This really does not need to go through four different addition processes.--NØ 14:28, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

History of the National Hockey League[edit]
The history of the National Hockey League begins with the end of its predecessor league, the National Hockey Association (NHA), in 1917. After unsuccessfully attempting to resolve disputes with Eddie Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts, executives of the three other NHA franchises suspended the NHA, and formed the National Hockey League (NHL), replacing the Livingstone team with a temporary team in Toronto, the Arenas. The NHL's first quarter-century saw the league compete against two rival major leagues—the Pacific Coast Hockey Association and Western Canada Hockey League—for players and the Stanley Cup. The NHL first expanded into the United States in 1924 with the founding of the Boston Bruins, and by 1926 consisted of ten teams in Ontario, Quebec, the Great Lakes region, and the Northeastern United States. At the same time, the NHL emerged as the only major league and the sole competitor for the Stanley Cup; in 1947, the NHL completed a deal with the Stanley Cup trustees to gain full control of the Cup. The NHL's footprint spread across Canada as Foster Hewitt's radio broadcasts were heard coast-to-coast starting in 1933.

- Comment: Perhaps the split discussion at Talk:History of the National Hockey League (1992–present)#Move to 1992–2017? that's been going on since February should be resolved first. There exists a draft at Draft:History of the National Hockey League (since 2017) which was worked on as recently as two days ago. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:02, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- It looks like there was support for a split and the draft is in good shape. Instead of being bold and moving the draft to main space myself, I've reached out to the draft creator here to see if they intend to move it to main space. They haven't edited in a few days, so we may need to be patient. Hey man im josh (talk) 11:25, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- I'm one of the other editors on that draft, I've been meaning to port over content from Arizona Coyotes and Utah NHL team to fill out the currently-empty last section but haven't gotten around to it. Once that's done, the draft should be good to publish. The Kip (contribs) 17:43, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- Fully expanded the aforementioned section, improved coverage of Tampa Bay's B2B and added a section on Boston's record-breaking season as well. Let me know if anything else is needed. The Kip (contribs) 06:37, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Just following up - @Hey man im josh, would I be good to move the draft to mainspace and perform the associated removals/page moves/template edits associated with doing so? Only issue is that 2017-present will then need to go through the GA process, which will hold up this FT nom. The Kip (contribs) 17:21, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- @The Kip: I don't see any reason why not. There did seem to be a general consensus in favor of the split and it's well written, so I say shoot. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:23, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh I've moved to mainspace and nominated it for GA in order to keep the ball rolling on this nom. I believe I've taken care of all the associated moves, edits, removals, etc - please let me know if I've missed anything. The Kip (contribs) 19:33, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Kanye West studio albums (2nd supplementary nomination)[edit]
This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/Kanye West studio albums for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:
I have now brought West's latest collaborative effort Vultures 1 with Ty Dolla Sign to GA status just under half a year after its release, although the nomination had been initiated well within the retention period! Having gone number one in multiple countries, the album is a worthy addition to the topic (shout out ULPS for working with me on the article) however I would like to check in retrospect with comments below is there a consensus if Donda 2 should still be included after West revealed it was a demo album? --K. Peake 09:19, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support for the inclusion of Vultures 1. Regarding your other point: I would vote for the removal of Donda 2 from this topic, as a demo album is not really equivalent (at least, in my mind) to a studio-recorded release. joeyquism (talk) 13:19, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support addition of Vultures 1. I am really unsure about the Donda 2 article. It still constitutes new original music by Kanye West. But in the article, although uncited, it says it was retroactively downgraded as a demo album. Maybe it could be included with a note like: Donda 2 (demo). I will remain neutral on the issue. Idiosincrático (talk) 05:33, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support - the new addition as an uncontroversial supplementary nomination. On the question of Donda 2, it should be removed from the topic unless we want the scope to be opened to all future demo albums from West, which I believe is not the intention.--NØ 08:43, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support as a straightforward addition of the latest album. Also support the removal of Donda 2 as it's not a studio album, but a demo album. Armbrust The Homunculus 12:48, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
- Support the addition of Vultures 1. I'm also unsure about the Donda 2 article either, per above. — VAUGHAN J. (t · c) 13:56, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Speak Now (Taylor's Version)[edit]
Speak Now (Taylor's Version) is a re-recorded album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Released on July 7, 2023, the album contains re-recorded versions of songs that originally appeared on Swift's 2010 album Speak Now and six previously-unreleased "From the Vault" tracks. The album reached number one in countries including Australia, Canada, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

- They're linked together on the Kanye West songs template. I've noticed that some other albums don't really have this kind of grouped linking on some template or category. Although the criteria says preferably in a template or category, it is usually clear that they're all the songs from the album. For example The Immaculate Collection compilation album topic doesn't have a template or category that groups these songs together. Idiosincrático (talk) 17:29, 28 June 2024 (UTC)

Lists of UEFA club competition winning managers[edit]
The Intercontinental Cup (IC) winning manager list did not exist at the time of promotion in 2008. Similar to the winning clubs topic, the IC was a UEFA-organised club competition and is included in the lead's list. Unless someone promotes the list, this topic does not satisfy the criteria for a complete topic (criteria 1. d). Idiosincrático (talk) 14:05, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Lists of UEFA club competition winning clubs[edit]
The UEFA Europa Conference League is a relatively new competition and did not exist at the time of the 2008 FT nomination. Additionally, the Intercontinental Cup list did not exist at the time of the nomination either, it should be included as it was jointly administered by both UEFA and CONMEBOL, and the competition is included in the lead article tallies. Without these lists reaching recognised status, this topic fails criteria 1d and 1e, thus it should be delisted. The UEFA Women's Champions League list is not included as the lead article only outlines men's competitions. Idiosincrático (talk) 01:13, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm going to try and get both of these lists up to featured standard in the coming weeks. Had forgot the Conference League list needed adding to the topic, likewise the Intercontinental Cup. NapHit (talk) 23:25, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
