Indiana Jones, Shazam sequels fall hard with major Razzie nominations

Within 24 hours, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" earned an Oscar nomination and a Razzie nod, while "Expend4bles" led the overall Golden Raspberries.

Within 24 hours, Harrison Ford's grand return to the Indiana Jones franchise bagged an Oscar nomination and was hit with a giant, rolling ball of mess among the 2024 Razzie nominations.

The Golden Raspberry Awards organization — which honors the worst movies of the year — unveiled Monday its annual slate of honorees, with high-profile sequels earning the most recognition among Hollywood titles, particularly lead Worst Picture nominee Expend4bles, the ensemble action flick starring Jason Statham, Sylvester Stallone, and 50 Cent.

Statham appeared in another Worst Picture nominee, Meg 2: The Trench, with the category rounded out by the critically maligned The Exorcist: Believer, Zachary Levi's theatrical flop Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and the horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.

Among acting nominees for worst performances of the year are Statham (Meg 2: The Trench), Vin Diesel (Fast X), Jennifer Lopez (The Mother), Mel Gibson (Confidential Informant), Kim Cattrall (About My Father), Helen Mirren (Shazam! Fury of the Gods), and Megan Fox, who earned two nods for her work in both Johnny & Clyde and Expend4bles.

Though the Razzies are a largely comical affair when it comes to jabbing Hollywood elites, the organization came under fire in 2023 after initially nominating then-12-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Worst Actress for her role in the Firestarter remake. It ultimately rescinded the nod and its rules were changed to stipulate that no one under the age of 18 could be nominated in the future.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, March 9, the day before the 96th Academy Awards.
