Colman Domingo, Ayo Edebiri, and The Color Purple dominate 55th NAACP Image Awards

Domingo is up for three awards, including Entertainer of the Year, while "The Color Purple" got plenty of love after being largely left out of the Oscars race.

Colman Domingo is having a great year. Aside from being nominated for his first Oscar for Rustin and consistently being one of the best-dressed stars on the red carpet, Domingo has just scored three NAACP Image Awards nominations, including Entertainer of the Year.

For that honor, he'll go against his The Color Purple costars Fantasia Barrino and Halle Bailey (who also made waves in The Little Mermaid), multi-hyphenate Keke Palmer, and her Vegas buddy/next month's Super Bowl halftime performer Usher.

Though The Color Purple has been left out of most awards races, with Danielle Brooks scoring the only Oscar nomination for the film, the NAACP Image Awards heaped loads of love onto the film with 16 nominations, including Outstanding Motion Picture and recognition for most of the cast, including the egregiously snubbed Taraji P. Henson.

American Fiction, which scored five Oscar nods, received seven NAACP Image Awards nominations in mostly the same categories, though Erika Alexander finally got recognized in the Supporting Actress category.

On the TV side, Abbott Elementary earned nine nominations, Amazon's little gem of a show Harlem received six, and Swarm got five. Ayo Edebiri, who's also been having a great year and a great red carpet season, scored two nominations, for her supporting role in The Bear and her guest starring role in Abbott Elementary.
