KING OF THE HILL

The third feature from writer-director Steven Soderbergh (sex, lies and videotape) is the work of a true film artist. Based on A.E. Hotchner’s memoir of growing up during the Depression, this story of a 12-year-old boy, Aaron Kurlander (Jesse Bradford), who drops through the net of middle-class life invites us to gaze upon the world with a child’s freshly awakening vision. Under Soderbergh’s delicate hand, even the darkest moments are rendered with a kind of innocent awe.
