Ricky Martin will play ''Zorro'' in London

STAGE TIME Ricky Martin is going to star in a musical version of ”Zorro” on London’s West End — at least according to Britain’s tabloid the Sun, that is. The best selling tab reported in their Wednesday edition that Martin is in final talks with theater producers to play the legendary Mexican hero. Veteran stage producer Adam Kenwright, whose credits include ”Stones in His Pockets” and the Argentinean circus extravaganza ”De La Guarda,” reportedly called Martin’s reps over the role. ”Ricky is already one of the biggest Latin icons in the world and has the look and the attitude to play Zorro,” a source close to Kenwright told the Sun. Producers have also asked British popstar Robbie Williams to write some of the music for ”Zorro,” which is due to premiere early next year. Williams, a real fan of musicals, is allegedly interested in the production.

TOURING Aerosmith will kick off on a 48 city tour pegged to their latest album, ”Just Push Play,” on June 6 in Hartford and finish Sept. 21 in Raleigh, N.C. The group Fuel, who released ”Something Like Human” last year, will open for the recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. Aerosmith — Steven Tyler, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Joe Perry, and Brad Whitford — released their 13th studio album last month. ”Play” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard charts and is currently at No. 22.

CONGRATULATIONS It’s spring and apparently love is in the celebrity air. ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star Sarah Michelle Gellar and actor Freddie Prinze Jr. are engaged, Gellar’s publicist confirmed on Tuesday. ”Access Hollywood” reported that Prinze, who lives with Gellar and will appear with her in the upcoming ”Scooby Doo,” popped the question last Friday. The couple reportedly announced the news to friends over the weekend at a party celebrating Gellar’s 24th birthday. Prinze, 25, and Gellar, who have been dating for more than a year, were also in the teen slasher flick ”I Know What You Did Last Summer” together. No wedding date has been set yet.

Third and fifth time’s a charm for country singers Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw, who are also headed down the aisle. Morgan and Kershaw announced Tuesday on ”Live With Regis and Kelly” that they’re planning a Sept. 29 wedding. They appeared on the daytime show to promote their ”I Finally Found Someone” CD, which features six duets and three solos a piece. Morgan, 41, has been married four times, and Kershaw, 43, recently divorced his second wife.

SEQUEL Zellweger, get thee to a Dunkin’ Donuts: The producers of ”Bridget Jones’s Diary” are considering turning the book’s follow up ”Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” into a sequel. Variety reports that Working Title Films has optioned the Helen Fielding book and is in talks with her about writing a screenplay for ”Edge of Reason.” Variety reports that Working Title had not previously mentioned producing a sequel, but that the box office ”Bridget” made last weekend ($10 million in the U.K. and $10.7 million in the U.S.) has convinced the production studio to proceed.

HONORED Martin Sheen will receive the Distinguished Environmentalist Award from the Sierra Club at the organization’s 90th anniversary gala this Thursday, the Associated Press reports. ”I don’t know if we can repair what’s been done already, I really don’t know, and I don’t know if anyone does,” the politically active Sheen said after learning of the award. ”We’re at a stopgap now. If we started now, just to try and conserve what’s left, that would be an achievement. But I don’t know if even that’s possible.” Sheen, 60, will attend the ceremony at the Regal Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles. Gordon LaBetz, chairman of the Los Angeles Sierra Club, told the AP: ”Martin Sheen is … a man who has used his fame to point out that we live in a world that requires change.”

TUBE NEWS NBC’s highly promoted new game show ”The Weakest Link” scored Monday night, when the show debuted to some of the strongest numbers in that timeslot this season. ”Link” averaged 15.1 million viewers from 8 to 9 p.m., beating staunch competition from CBS’ comedy lineup ”The King of Queens” and ”Yes Dear” and Fox’s high school drama ”Boston Public.” An hour later, ABC floundered with its tennis telepic ”When Billie Beat Bobby.” Despite positive reviews and a strong cast, including Holly Hunter and Ron Silver, the movie only drew 6.3 million viewers from 9 to 11 p.m.

CASTING Oscar winner Joe Pesci (”GoodFellas”) may star in yet another mob pic. This time, Pesci is in negotiations to star in a film about former Mafia hitman and rat Sammy ”The Bull” Gravano. Pesci’s involvement in the project, however, is conditional on the project turning into a feature. The problem is that the film, titled ”Sammy the Bull,” could become a TV movie, instead, at which point it’s time to call Chazz Palminteri.
