GREENFINGERS

This comedy about British convicts who find self-esteem when they turn a prison garden into a bed of roses is built on a compost heap of mugging, platitudes, and English tweeness similar to that in Waking Ned Devine and The Full Monty. The worst of it is, two previously fine actors are reduced to mulch chips through overacting: Croupier’s Clive Owen plays the handsome but sullen romantic-lead convict; Helen Mirren plays a celebrity gardening expert who favors big hats.
