Composer Danny Elfman has long been a logical foil for Tim Burton because both understand how far to push ”quirky” before it becomes ”kinky,” or genuinely spooky. Heard alone, Elfman’s deft orchestra-meets-electronics score hums and swells with easy-does-it dread, never simply flippant or ominous, but hanging in a middle ground.
