U2's tour will return to North America

SOUND BITES Confirming earlier reports, U2 announced it would return to North America for another pass on its ”Elevation” tour. The band will play 15 dates at arenas in the U.S. and Canada, starting October 10 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and concluding November 18 in Las Vegas. The tour, which has included some 80 dates this year in North America and Europe, is one of the year’s highest-grossing, having earned $105 million so far.

HEROIC TRIO It’s been a big week for real-life celebrity heroism. Friday, Matthew McConaughey gave mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to a 49-year-old woman who fainted at a screening of his film ”Thirteen Conversations About One Thing” at the Toronto Film Festival. Then there was Tom Hanks, rescuing a heat-exhausted jogger who collapsed in Malibu. Hanks reportedly jumped out of his car, wiped the man’s face with a towel, gave him water, telephoned the man’s wife, and stayed with him until she arrived. ”I got rescued by Forrest Gump,” he exclaimed to his wife, prompting laughter from Hanks.

Finally, the World Entertainment News Network reports that Sharon Stone proved as cool as an icepick when she faced a gunman recently at Los Angeles’ Il Pastaio restaurant. The gunman was actually an undercover cop who was trying to arrest a thief who had robbed a nearby jewelry store. Stone reportedly urged other diners to get down and move away from the window and even gathered passersby into the eatery for safety.
