Legendary musical star Chita Rivera is returning to the Broadway stage for The Visit, the final Broadway musical of Cabaret team John Kander and Fred Ebb, producers announced today.

The musical, which is based on a play by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, will begin previews March 26 at the Lyceum Theater, with a planned opening of April 23. Featuring a book by Terrence McNally, the show follows Rivera’s character, Claire Zachanassian, described as the “richest woman in the world,” who returns to her birthplace. Roger Rees will star alongside Rivera as a man who once scorned Claire.

“In The Visit, Chita Rivera shows the world what becomes a legend most,” Producer Tom Kirdahy said in a statement. “Kander and Ebb’s final musical is a masterwork. Fascinating, visceral and haunting, The Visit entertains and challenges in ways that can only be described as thrilling. We cannot wait for The Visit to visit Broadway.” Ebb died in 2004.

John Doyle, who will be directing this production, directed Rivera in the show at the Williamstown Theatre Festival in summer 2014. Though the show was originally supposed to it Broadway in 2001 starring Angela Lansbury, it has only graced the Broadway stage in 2011 as a concert production.
